This second volume not only sets out to develop certain themes contained in the first book but also introduces new material and images which touch on aspects of the islander's lives and times, especially that of the Rosies, the last remaining family who solely occupied the island.
For many years after the island had been vacated in 1974 everything appeared to have remained in place and untouched. On every visit now change is noticeable to some extent.
Once the fabric of the building has been breeched the elements can have a dramatic effect and accelerate the process of decay and destruction.
The author has also included his record of the trips to the island by the Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership and by the BBC Contryfile team in recent years.
