The Food Heritage of The Orkney Islands

The Orkney Islands have a harvest on their doorstep, from the air, land and sea. Survival has always been a challenge over the centuries, but islanders have remained stoic, and have shown to be highly skilled individuals. The history of each island is unique, bu the characteristics of many islanders often have similar attributes, hard working, adventurous, determined and resourceful. Every culture provides for their family with what is available at the time, each have to be prepared to adapt to survive.
