This book sets out to summarise the role Orkney in general, and Scapa Flow in particular, played in providing a home for the Royal Navy in both World Wars. A particular emphasis is on the week during the First World War from 31st May to 6th June 2016, a fateful period in which the Battle of Jutland was thought and HMS Hampshire was sunk while attempting to take Lord Kitchener on a diplomatic mission to meet the Tsar in Russia. It is illustrated with both archive images and present-day photographs.
