Food From The Sea looks at the challenges and opportunities facing the global seafood industry. With its low carbon footprint and proven health benefits, the seafood industry should have a great future. Instead, it faces a multitude of problems, mainly related to an increasingly negative image that is gaining traction in the media and wider society. John Goodlad tells this complicated and contradictory story through the lives of the people who produce food from the sea; the fishers and farmers who provide the shellfish that we eat.

John was for many years the voice of the Shetland fishing industry before becoming a fish farmer. He now advises two International Seafood Investment Funds.

John's first book, The Cod Hunters, was published by the Shetland Heritage Publications in 2018. His second book, The Salt Roads, which was published by Birlinn in 2022, has been translated into Dutch and Faroese.

'This is a genuinely important book that explains why sustainable seafood is the key to the feeding of our densely populated world, all explained through vivid vignettes of conversations at sea and on land with both believers and sceptics' Professor David Abulafia, author of The Boundless Sea

'John Goodlad once again magnificently entertains and informs us about this vital and colourful aspect of our nation's life' Alexander McCall Smith, author of 44 Scotland Street and The No 1. Ladies Detective Agency.
