Young to the double to help Orkney to 3-2 win

Owen Young scored a brace for Orkney this afternoon.

Orkney FC survived going down to ten men to claim a hard-fought but pleasing 3-2 win against Alness United this afternoon.

Chris Simpson gave the reds an early lead with a drilled low effort before Alness equalised through Euan Henderson’s tap-in.

Orkney grew more into the game as it wore on and were rewarded by two Owen Young goals before the break to leave the home side 3-1 up and in control at half-time.

Aaron Grant reduced the deficit on 52 minutes to 3-2, and when Kyle Drever — making his return to the Orkney FC squad after a lengthy break — was shown a red card for some verbals to linesman Jimmy Leask on the hour mark, there was renewed hope for the visitors that they could get something out of the game.

Debutant goalkeeper Calum Murdoch was increasingly called into action as Alness pressed for an equaliser but Orkney remained resolute, seeing the match out reasonably comfortably to claim another win.
