Stromness Lifeboat called out just after 7pm last night, Thursday, to head to a yacht which was taking on water off Orkney.

The vessel was approximately 13 miles south-west of Hoy Sound at the time.

The NorthLink ferry Hamnavoe and the fishing vessel Caledonia II also headed towards the yacht, named Sea laughter.

On arrival at the vessel, members of the lifeboat crew put a salvage pump aboard and started pumping water out of the yacht.

The lifeboat then took the yacht under tow into Stromness Harbour where water continued to be pumped from the vessel.

The lifeboat was back on station, refueled and ready for service, just before midnight.
