Weather Warnings issued for Orkney

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Orkney, during the next 18 hours.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Orkney this afternoon (Monday).

Gale force northwesterly winds are expected to hit the North of Scotland — including Orkney, the Highlands, and the Grampian area — from 12:45pm this afternoon until on Monday until 8am tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

According to the chief forecaster, gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected, perhaps touching 70 mph over Orkney for a time, with  gradually dropping through Tuesday morning.

The Met office suspect that delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. The public is advised to “be aware” and to take extra care during this time.
