Water treatment changes

The way the water supply is treated in Orkney is to change from April, 2012, according to Scottish Water.

Letters were sent out to some households this week informing them of the new treatment process, involving a change from chlorine to chloramine to disinfect the water.

Ross MacDonald, project communications with Scottish Water, stated: “This method has been used for many years in other areas of Scotland and is used in other parts of the UK, USA and Europe.

“This change is being introduced as a way of improving water treatment, in line with tightening legislation and meeting our commitment to improving water quality in our network.”
