Vehicle goes over cliffs in west mainland

The Stromness lifeboat was called out to Yesnaby, in Orkney’s West Mainland, early this morning, following reports of a vehicle going over the cliffs there.

According to Stromness RNLI, on arrival at the scene the Y-boat and lifeboat began a search of the area. A vehicle was located in deep water out of reach of the crew. a search was then carried out of the surrounding cliffs and beaches with nothing found.

It is thought that the road out to Yesnaby is currently closed.

The lifeboat was paged to attend the incident at 5.38am. After attending it returned to Stromness and was refueled and ready to go by 9am.
