Help for people with sight loss to engage with new technology

A large-print screen reader – one of the ways that technology can enhance the independence of those suffering from sight loss.

If you, or someone you know, has sight loss and is unsure how new technology can help maximise their independence, then help is at hand.

The sight loss charity RNIB Scotland is holding a free ‘Chat and Tech’ drop-in session at Kirkwall library on Monday, October 25, between 11am and 3pm.

Mike Holroyd, community coordinator with RNIB Scotland, said: “We want to ensure that blind and partially sighted people throughout Scotland receive appropriate support and information. There are a lot of phone and online services available, but sometimes you just can’t beat a face-to-face chat over a cuppa.

“It will be great to meet folk in person, answer questions and enable people to feel supported. We will also link up with our technology coordinator, who will help us with any questions and information around the various technologies which can assist blind and partially sighted people in everyday life and work”.

Anyone can just drop in, but it would be helpful if those who plan to attend would contact Mike at mike.holroyd@rnib.org.uk or call him on 0131 378 8927 to let him know.
