Top marks for hospital catering

The catering department at the Balfour Hospital has received national recognition for the quality of its meals.

NHS Scotland’s most recent compliance report on nutrition, for the six months to December 2011, consistently placed Orkney among the best performers in a range of different categories.

The service received top marks for meeting the nutritional needs of patients, food-based standards, menu guidance, special diets and overall patient experience.

Head of estates and facilities at the hospital, Malcolm Colquhoun, said: “These scores are a reflection of the very high standard of catering at NHS Orkney and of the hard work and commitment from both the catering team and the dietetics service, in particular, Lindsey Kolthammer.”
