Time running out to comment planned speed restrictions

The OIC is set to introduce new speed restrictions on a number of roads across the county.

Following a review of all ‘A’ and ‘B’ roads in Orkney, members of the council’s transport committee recommended that new limits should come into effect on sections of the following roads:

30mph

  • B9056 at Quoyloo, Sandwick, including Quoyloo Road and Bristol Road.
  • C11 Cairston Road and Howe Road, Stromness.

40mph

  • A986 at Harray Post Office, Harray.
  • A965 Stenness Village.
  • A967 Twatt, Birsay.
  • B9050 Hillhead area, Deerness.
  • Tankerness Hall Road, Whitecrest, Tankerness.
  • Moss Road, Holm.
  • Scapa Brae, St Ola.
  • Old Finstown Road/Glaitness Road.
  • B9053 Scapa Bay, including part of the B9148 from Scapa Pier to a point beyond the Crantit Trail Path.

50mph

  • A986 Madras, Harray.
  • A967 Maggie Garson’s Corner, Sandwick.
  • A964 St Ola and Orphir at Greenigoe.
  • C1 Old Finstown Road from Smerquoy Brae to the 40mph limit at Walliwall Quarry.
  • B9148 New Scapa Road from Holm Branch Road to the 40mph limit at the Crantit Trail Path.

Members of the public still have time to raise any objections to the new speed limits by writing to the chief executive, Orkney Islands Council, Council Offices, Kirkwall, by Friday, January 27. Full details of the proposals are available on the public notices section of the council website.
