Three Orcadians included in New Year’s Honours

Blue Door founder, Rita Jamieson, is one of three Orkney folk included in the Queen’s New Years Honours, receiving a British Empire Medal (BEM).

Three well-known Orkney faces have been included in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List, which has been published this evening, Friday.

Receiving the British Empire Medal (BEM) will be Rita Jamieson, founder of the Blue Door charity shop, Kirkwall, in recognition of her support for local community projects.

Meanwhile, both Glenys Hughes and Bryan Sutherland have each received an MBE for their hard work in the community. Glenys has been recognised for her services to music in the county and charity in Malawi, while Bryan has been given the honour for services to the Orkney air service, Loganair.
