Returning officer for Orkney, Alistair Buchan, has formally declared the result of the uncontested election in the Stromness and South Isles ward.

Rob Crichton, James Stockan and Magnus Thomson have been duly elected to serve as councillors.

An uncontested election is declared where the number of candidates is equal to or less than the number of seats available.

Polling stations are open until 10pm today for the five other wards in Orkney.

The votes will be counted electronically in Kirkwall tomorrow, Friday, with results expected by lunchtime.
