Stromness past under “investigation”

The Stromness Hometown project begins on Saturday.

A summer project for young people, which will see Stromness and its past investigated, launches on Saturday morning.

The Stromness Hometown project will see the town and its stories being delved into by those involved, with an aim of turning a walk through the streets into a trip through time.

Using scriptwriting, interviewing, music and sound effects, the old and the new will be gathered and edited into a “soundscape”. Written and spoken by young people, the completed audio guide will be on mp3 players available from Stromness Museum and the Pier Arts Centre next year.

The project will be run through drop-in workshops, held every Saturday until September, at the Maritime Studies College, in Stromness, from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Anyone interested in taking part, or who may have stories to tell, is invited to the launch at 11am in the college.
