Stromness parking review begins tomorrow

An event is to be held in Stromness to gather public views on a review of on-street parking restrictions in the town.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, members of the public are being invited to view plans in the Warehouse Buildings. This will continue until Friday, August 25, with Council officers then available to speak to at drop in sessions next Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30, from 11am until 3pm, and on Thursday 31 from 2pm until 5pm.

Consultation response forms will be available throughout the period. These can be completed and handed in to either the Warehouse Building or returned to the Council Offices in Kirkwall

The plans will include a review of the existing arrangements plus proposals for the introduction of new parking restrictions in the town. Darren Richardson, Orkney Islands Council’s head of infrastructure is looking forward to hearing the public’s views on what he considers to be an important issue.

“The centre of Stromness has seen some major improvements in recent years but parking, in particular drivers parking out with marked bays, continues to be an issue particularly around the Pierhead area,” he said.

“We look forward to hearing public views on the proposals.”
