Stromness highlighted as conservation grant success story

Stromness has been highlighted as a regeneration success story by Historic Scotland at the launch of their latest round of conservation grants.

The work of the Stromness Townscape Heritage Scheme (THI) – which includes assisting property owners in the historic core of the town to secure grants to improve their buildings in line with conservation aims – was praised at the launch hosted by Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop on Monday.

To date, over £1.9m has been awarded in grants to 31 separate properties within the Stromness Conservation Area as part of the THI, with work on 13 completed.

With only £600k still remaining, the Stromness THI has launched it’s final round of grants. In order to be considered in the final round of grants, property owners must send an overview of their proposed works and at least one quote to the THI team by March 30.
