St Peter’s House construction contract awarded to local firm

The contract for construction of the new St Peter’s House in Stromness has been awarded to local firm, Orkney Builders.

Orkney Islands Council have announced that the contract for the construction of the replacement St Peter’s House in Stromness has been awarded to local company Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd.

The new St Peters House will replace the current 32-bed facility with a modern 40-bed facility at Garson.

According to Caroline Sinclair, chief Officer for Orkney Health and Care, the whole staff team are pleased to see this project moving forward.

“It will provide a much-needed modern, fit for the future, care facility for people who need residential care and we look forward to working with Orkney Builders on this great project,” she said

Stephen Kemp,  managing director of Orkney Builders is delighted that the company has been selected to lead this project for Orkney Islands Council.

“The project will have fantastic benefits to our local supply chain and our community, with potential community benefits a key factor in our contract obligations. We look forward to creating another top quality care home for the Orkney community,” he said.

The care home is planned for completion in 2019 with a total project cost of £9m.
