South Ronaldsay farmer wins young ambassador award

Kerry Annal from Orkney, winner of the Young Livestock Ambassador award with Fergus Ewing Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity.

A young Orkney farmer has won an award recognising exceptional enthusiasm in the livestock industry.

South Ronaldsay’s Kerry Annal, 24, was announced as the winner of the Young Livestock Ambassador Award at the Royal Highland Show earlier today, Friday.

Kerry was one of three women from around Scotland to have been nominated for the one-off initiative, which was run by Quality Meat Scotland, SRUC and the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS).

Kerry, who is also a monthly columnist with The Orcadian, was presented with her award by the Scottish Government’s rural secretary Fergus Ewing at the QMS.

As winner of the award, Kerry she will receive a lifetime membership with the RHASS, including free entry to to the  Royal Highland Show.

“The three finalists all greatly impressed the judging panel with their energy and enthusiasm for the Scottish livestock industry. They are all 100 per cent committed to the industry and possess huge potential to make a difference in the future,” said Douglas Bell, director of industry development with Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).
