The ferry service in the South Isles was disrupted today and a replacement ferry brought in after the Hoy Head was damaged while berthing at Flotta Pier earlier today.

The Thorsvoe has taken over ferry services between Houton, Flotta and Lyness.

According to the OIC although the incident occurred at the pier in Flotta, the pier was undamaged and the Hoy Head has travelled to Stromness where an inspection will be carried out by engineers.

Orkney Ferries has brought in the Thorsvoe to take over the Hoy Head’s timetable and is advising customers to check the www.orkneyferries.co.uk website for any service updates.

If the change of vessel results in the need to alter any existing bookings, the company will contact customers directly.

A further update will be provided once the damage to the bow area of the Hoy Head has been assessed.
