The five volumes that constitute Arthur Marder's From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow represent arguably the finest contribution to the literature of naval history since Alfred Mahan, and are still regarded by many as the definitive history of naval events leading up to and incluging the Great War.
The third volume covers the controversial clash between the German High Seas Fleet and the British Grand Fleet and Battlecruiser Fleet at Jutland and its immediate aftermath in June 1916, and the author's intricate charting of this great sea battle is regarded as a major step forward in our understanding of the contest between these huge fleets in the North Sea.
