More info

Margaret Tait was born in Orkney in 1918. She was, like other women writers of the time, both part of the Scottish Renaissance and apart from it. The word 'they'll' in the last line of her poem is significant. In taking on A Drunk Man, she creates a riposte which is perhaps directed not so much at this flagship poem of the Scottish Literary Renaissance, but more widely at the lack of critical attention or regard to the contribution of women in the landscape of the arts, science and politics.
