More info

On his first visit in 1985 Swona appeared to be an island frozen in time since the departure of the last residents in 1974. Over the years he has recorded the gradual process of decay. He has also captured an insight into the history and the type of life lived by the islanders.

For this we should be grateful for, without this book, much could have been lost forever.

"This pictoral record covers a period of 25 years and hopefully this photographic journey will provide an insight into what life was like for the inhabitants who lived and worked on an isolated island in the Pentland Firth. The island is uninhabited, but for the herd of feral cattle on Swona who are living on the edge, life goes on".
