Many stories in this small book are based on true events, but are taken from traditional tales rather than recorded history... Some of the stories are well known to Orcadians, but others are more obscure, while some are published here for the first time.
Westray folk have always had a keen interest in family matters, relationships, and all things relating to Westray. It was this passion that led the community to create the Westray Heritage Centre to record the island's past. This inherent love of Westray has been passed on to me in my genes, which is why I wanted to help raise money for the centre, and, as importantly, pass on some of these tales to the public at large" Tom Muir
