More info

'Each year the all too brief excavation season flies past and the numerous faces and names and moments become only a series of memories. Likewise those inumerable moments of discovery of special finds, such as the carved stone ball, the artwork or some of the exquisite polished stone objects, are vivid recollections for those involved. Without photography, or in a few select cases an image created by one of our artists in residence, these would survive only as personal reminiscences.

This is their story and these moments are captured in a series of beautiful, often candid, photographs by Woody Musgrove. From the uncovering of the site at the start of the season to wrapping it up at the end, 'Ness of Brodgar: Open To The Public' lets you look behind the scenes of a large excavation through its more intimate human moments. Woody has created a unique archive of photographs that will play a part in the record of the Ness excavations and we are lucky to have so many beautifully distilled into this one book.'
