More info

Discovered by chance by local farmer Ronnie Simison, the tomb was a place where, 5000 years ago, the Stone Age people revered their dead.

Roughly half a mile inland from the tomb is a Bronze Age site, comprising a mound of burnt stone and the remains of a stone building.

These two remarkable sites and the artefacts they contained tell us much about the lives of our ancestors, and yet they retain many secrets to this day.

This is the unique story of how and why they are one of Orkney's most popular visitor attractions - the Isbister Chambered Cairn, otherwise known as the Tomb of the Eagles, and the Liddle Burnt Mound.
