Sebay Farm stot tops County Show’s cattle section

The winner of today’s cattle section, a steer calf shown by J. S. Baillie & Co, Sebay Farms, Tankerness.

Today saw the best of Orkney’s livestock come together to compete for prizes at the 2018 County Show.

This year’s cattle class saw a December 2017 born Limousin cross steer calf, shown by J. S. Baillie Co, of Sebay Farm, Tankerness take the top spot.

The homebred stot was from Limousin cross cow, sired by Newhouse Colorado, and was sired itself by Craigatoke Jameson.

Second place in the section went to a cow in milk shown by Phyllis Hepburn, Messigate, Tankerness. The four-year-old cow is named Newlot Esmeralda W114 and is sired by Silvermoss Everest and K044 and our of Newlot Esmeralda K090.

The show’s top horse, the Clydesdale mare Downhill Snowflake. Also pictured are owner Ian Smith and the show’s guest of honour Nigel Miller.

The winner of this year’s horse section was an Irish-bred eight-year-old mare called Downhill Snowflake, shown by J.D. & d. M. Smith of Holborn, Holm Branch Road. Snowflake was sired by Carnaff Ambassador, and is out of the dam, Garleton Betty.

The champion sheep was a Cheviot ewe exhibited by J. J. & E. Wishart, Newbigging, Harray, while a pure Saanen goatling called Somerland Lexi, shown by Heather Croy, Deerness, won the goat section.

A Rottweiler named Denali, shown by Adell Miller, from Evie, was the day’s top dog, being selected as the section’s top exhibit and the poultry section was won by Donald MacIsaac, from The Glebe, Hoy’s, call duck.

Maeson Yates, from Kirkwall, won the show’s pets section with a bearded dragon named Bobby.
