Search is on for marine renewables experts of the future

The search is on to find school pupils in Orkney who could be Scotland’s marine renewables experts of the future and the winners of Skills Development Scotland’s 2012 Junior Saltire awards.

Entries are being invited from the county’s primary five to seven pupils; S1 to S3; and S4 to S6 secondary pupils in the competition, which is delivered in partnership with the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI).

It follows the success of last year’s inaugural Junior Saltire awards and the aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities Scotland has to exploit its wave power potential.

Award entries can be from a team of four pupils or a whole class and there are school prizes of up to £750 to be won.

Teams are being asked to register for the competition by January 31 and submit their design blueprint by February 29. The next step is to create a working model by April 30.

Full details of how to enter the competition are available on the Skills Development Scotland website www.sds.co.uk/saltireprize.
