Scottish water advise road closure

Scottish Water will be carrying out essential repairs to the water network on Bridge Street, Kirkwall from Monday, June 13, for up to five days.

To enable the repairs to be completed safely by local contractor, Andrew Sinclair Ltd, Bridge Street will need to be closed to traffic from the Dil Se restaurant northwards, which will also impact upon normal access to Albert Street. The roads are expected to re-open by Saturday, June 18.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work and businesses affected have been provided with a contact number if help is needed to coordinate deliveries.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential work, which is required to repair a leak and ensure all customers continue to receive a reliable supply of clear, fresh drinking water, while minimising the risk of unplanned disruption in the future.

“We recognise that Bridge Street is an important road and our team on site will do all they can to complete the work quickly and safely, while minimising any disruption to nearby homes and businesses. We are in contact with the businesses affected to ensure we support them in receiving any deliveries; and safe pedestrian access to all shops and properties will remain possible for the duration of the repairs.

“We would like to thank customers and road users for their understanding while this essential work is completed.”
