Two Orcadians will represent Scotland at this year’s JKA Karate World Championships in Thailand.

Andrew Hamilton, from Kirkwall, and Magnus Garson, originally from Stromness, will make up part of the six-man Scottish team competing in both the kumite (sparring), and kata (set form) events, held in Pattaya, from 18-21 August.

This will be Magnus’s first world championships, and he has received sponsorship from Bob Clouston towards his participation.

A reporter at The Orcadian, Andrew is sponsored by the Orkney Media Group and has competed in the last two world championships – in Sydney in 2006, and Tokyo in 2004.
