Rugby teams settle for a share of the spoils

Yvonne Barnett bundled over the line for Orkney’s first try of the day.

The top two sides in the BT Women’s North League had to settle for a share of the spoils this afternoon, as Orkney Dragons and Inverness Craig Dunain fought out a 10-10 draw.

The match was closely contested throughout, and while Inverness shaded the first-half, the second-half ended with Orkney pushing for a late winner.

All the scoring came in the first 40 minutes of a stop-start game, with Orkney twice fighting from behind.

The visitors, looking to overtake the hosts at the top of the league, went 0-5 inside the first five minutes, before intense Orkney pressure resulted in Yvonne Barnett restoring parity between the sides.

Midway through the half, Inverness retook the lead, catching Orkney cold to grab their second try of the day.

Orkney, however, fought back almost immediately, with good play from Amy Walker and Paige Archibald resulting in Lorraine Davidson going over the line.

Orkney, playing their first match since November, improved after the break and despite huge pressure on the Inverness defence, couldn’t grab a late score.
