Orkney RFC’s first XV begin their 2017/18 league campaign tomorrow afternoon when they host Highland RFC at Pickaquoy.

Orkney drew with Highland at home last season, and lost the return fixture in Inverness, finishing in eighth place in BT National League Division 3, while their visitors finished fifth.

It should prove a tough test for the home side — if they are in any doubt about the size of the task ahead of them, they need only look at last weekend’s results when Highland beat Division 1 team Aberdeen Grammar 34-27 in the BT National League Cup, while Orkney were dumped out the competition after losing 78-12 to Division 2 team Dumfries Saints.

Orkney head coach Paul Livingstone will be hoping from a reaction from his squad after this week accusing them of a lack of effort and commitment.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 1pm.
