Rugby and football sides claim trio of victories

Chris Guthrie gets some air time as he extends Orkney’s lead against Aberdeen Wanderers.

Orkney RFC ran rampant at Picky this afternoon, thrashing Aberdeen Wanderers 76-0.

A fifth consecutive bonus-point try, Orkney are six points clear at the top of the Tennent’s Caledonia League Division 1 having played a match fewer than second-placed Dunfermline.

There was simply no contest as an unrelenting Orkney really turned the screw on the Aberdeen side.

There was also good news for the club’s senior female side, Orkney Dragons, who beat Stornoway Ladies 7-33.

The result keeps the Dragons at the top of the Tennent’s Caledonia North League.

Moving from the oval ball to the round ball, Orkney FC were made to work in their narrow win away to Bonar Bridge.

Liam Delday scored the only goal of the game on 70 minutes to secure a hard-fought third win on the bounce.

The three points sees Orkney remain fifth in the 11-team North Caledonian League.
