Rowers reach Faroe Islands

The team of six Orkney men rowing across the North Atlantic for cancer charity CLAN, have reached the Faroe Islands.

The rowers — Davie Flett, Marty Flett, Keith Moar, Ivan Houston, Gary Coltherd and Dave Shearer — set off from Shetland on Monday afternoon and and completed the 200 mile challenge shortly after 3pm this afternoon.

Speaking shortly after touching land, Davie said: “Everybody’s just delighted. We did it in bang on 45 hours.

“Everything went to plan apart from a short spell when we had to go under tow. There were 10 feet waves and it was impossible to row or change crews, so it was purely for safety reasons.

“We’re all still high on adrenaline though — everybody did really well.”

So far the group have raised over £21,000 for CLAN and donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/ClanNorthAtlanticRow.
