Rovers progress in Highland Amateur Cup while Junior clash finishes all square

Kirkwall Rovers have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Highland Amateur Cup after beating Wick outfit, Staxigoe United 2-1 today, in a tough game. Orkney’s sole remaining representatives now face Thurso Acks in the next round.

Meanwhile Orkney’s under 18 football team drew 1-1 against Shetland in tonight’s match at the Pickaquoy Centre.

Shetland’s Jamie Duffy had a penalty saved by Cameron McConnachie in the first half, before he redeemed himself with a goal from his second spot kick later in the game. Orkney rallied though and got a late equaliser, as Sam McBeth converted the third penalty of the game, after he himself had been fouled.

The overall score line now stands at Orkney 81-98 Shetland with two events scheduled for tomorrow.
