Ross leads the way as Orkney seal crucial first victory

Danny Bain was on supreme kicking form this afternoon, missing just one conversion.

Orkney RFC crushed Dalziel this afternoon to seal a morale-boosting and crucial first victory of the season.

The 68-5 ten-try rout was every bit as dominant as the scoreline suggests, with Orkney cutting through their struggling opponents almost at will.

Expectations of a first league win of the 2017/18 season had been raised following arguably the strongest side named by Orkney in some time and they did not let their fans down, securing a try bonus point inside 20 minutes.

Robbie Firth, Sean Cursiter and Scott Russell all got their names on the scoresheet, while Philip Ross went over for a first-half double as Orkney led 35-0 at the break.

Dalziel did show some sort of resilience in the second period, however Orkney continued the momentum, with Ross rewarded for an incisive attacking display, with four more tries, added to by captain Scott Rendall.

Danny Bain rounded off a pleasing day for the home side, scoring six from seven conversions, as Orkney began a crucial run of fixtures in the perfect fashion.
