Police Scotland have confirmed that the woman who died following a road traffic collision in Orkney last week was Emma Barton, 22, from Stromness.

Miss Barton died on Sunday, December 2, following a one-vehicle accident near Rennibister on Tuesday, November 27.

She was treated at the Balfour Hospital before being transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A male passenger from the black Vauxhall Corsa suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident and was treated at the Balfour Hospital.

Sergeant Alan Henderson said: “Our thoughts are with Emma’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“We would ask anyone with any information about this incident which has not yet been passed to police to call 101 quoting reference NK1701/18.”
