Recruitment drive for special constables to take place tonight

A recruitment drive is set to take place tonight (Wednesday) in an attempt to boost the number of special constables in Orkney.

A drive by Police Scotland to bolster the number of special constables in Orkney will be the focus of an online event this evening.

A recruitment and information session will take place between 6pm and 8pm using Microsoft Teams, and people need to pre-register for the event.

Sergeant Fraser Macdonald from Police Scotland recruitment along with local special constable coordinators will be available to speak to about the roles and duties of a volunteer police officer, the recruitment process, and lived experiences of policing in Orkney.

As a voluntary role, special constables work alongside full-time police officers in an individual’s spare time, assisting in regular police activity, as well as interacting with all kinds of people to give back, keep the local community safe and make a real difference.

If interested, people will need to pre-register for the event at: Policerecruitmentaberdeen@scotland.pnn.police.uk

The event will be on Microsoft TEAMS so people need to have that downloaded to access the meeting.
