Orkney’s World Heritage Site rangers have a busy few days ahead, in the run up to World Heritage Site Day on Tuesday, April 18.

Earlier this week, Sandra Miller and Elaine Clarke were in Glasgow promoting the Heart of Neolithic Orkney at a World Heritage event in the Kelvin Grove Museum.

The Orkney stall promoted the World Heritage site as well as offering a glimpse of the Islands courtesy of a virtual reality headsets showcasing Maeshowe. There were also displays of various artefacts for the public to see and handle including pots and tools and carved stones from the World Heritage site.

Closer to home Orkney’s WHS pop up museum of replica artefacts are currently on display at Kirkwall airport,

This follows the recent activity where a guest potter offered a hands-on experience at Skara Brae, with demonstrations to visitors and the chance for them to create their own replica Neolithic pot.

Finally, next Tuesday, to celebrate World Heritage Day itself, the rangers will be at Tesco in Kirkwall promoting awareness not only of Orkney’s WHS but of sites across the world.
