Liam McArthur presents Rachael Sutherland with the Sportsperson of the Year award for 2016

The Orkney Sports Awards will return in January next year and, with nominations now being invited, the Orkney public are being urged to vote for the athletes they believe are worthy of the ultimate recognition in Orkney sport.

The awards night will take place on Friday, January 19, 2018.

The nomination period however, will close at 12 midnight on Sunday, November 26.

Up for grabs are Sportsperson of the Year, Young Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Young Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Official of the Year and School Sports Volunteer of the Year.

“We have had a fantastic response in previous years and I fully expect this year to follow suit,” explained Catherine Johnson, one of the organisers of the event.

“Every award is hotly contested, which is a fantastic indicator of the strength of the local sporting scene in the county.

“This is your awards and an opportunity to recognise those individuals who make an outstanding contribution — whether it is in competition, volunteering or officiating.”

Nomination forms can be found in The Orcadian, while nominations can also be made by emailing active-schools@orkney.gov.uk. Alternatively, nominations can also be made via The Orcadian’s Facebook and Twitter feeds or by private messaging the Active Schools Orkney Facebook page. Please include name and category.
