Police confirm ‘no criminality’ in Willow Road incident

The head of Orkney’s police has confirmed that an incident which occurred in Kirkwall on Tuesday night involved no criminality or risk to the public.

A specialist crew of armed officers were flown into Kirkwall following reports of concerning behaviour being exhibited by a man on Willow Road carrying what was believed to be a firearm.

In an update this morning, chief inspector Alastair Garrow, local area commander for Orkney, said: “Following a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Papdale area of Kirkwall, around 7.15pm on Tuesday, 3 May, specialist officers from Inverness were flown to the area, to ensure the safety of the public and assist local officers in locating the person involved.

“Extensive enquiries were carried out and a 14-year-old male youth was traced in connection with the matter.

“We can confirm that no criminality was involved and there was no risk to the public.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their patience as officers worked to establish the full circumstances in this case.”
