Police appeal after cyclist injured

Police in Orkney are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was injured in a collision with a parked car in Kirkwall.

According to police, the collision too place on Palace Road in the town at around 10.10am last Thursday and involved a parked Volvo V70 car.

The 25-year-old male cyclist suffered serious injuries which have required hospital treatment.

Sergeant Kenneth Walker said: “While the car involved was not parked in a dangerous position, it is also an opportunity to remind people to be considerate of other road users when they are leaving their vehicle.

“It is important that all road users show due care and consideration for other road users and do not allow their vehicle to obstruct the road.

“We would urge members of the public to report incidents of obstruction at the time of the offence so that officers can take the necessary action.”
