Plucky Ardrossan come away with victory

Scott Rendall’s progress is halted by determined Ardrossan defending.

Orkney RFC were on the wrong side of a hugely disappointing defeat this afternoon, as Ardrossan Academicals secured just their second victory away from home of the season, winning 3-17.

Strong and resolute in defence, while quick and dangerous in attack, Ardrossan stuck to their game-plan manfully, with a one-dimensional Orkney side failing to break their line of defence throughout the afternoon.

All of the day’s scores were scored in the first-half, with Ardrossan opening the scoring against the run of play with a converted try inside ten minutes.

Both sides converted penalties — Orkney’s coming through Danny Bain — before Ardrossan scored a fantastic second try to stretch their lead to 3-17.

The second-half would see more of the same — Orkney dominating territory and enjoying the lion’s share of possession, however, the home side just could not find a way past a strong and determined defending.
