Planners shortlisted for national award

Orkney Islands Council has been shortlisted for a national award for its planning guidance for developments in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.

The guidance is the first of its kind to be produced and put into effect for a World Heritage Site in Scotland.

The aim is to ensure that high quality development can take place without significant adverse impact on what is described as the “outstanding universal value” of the World Heritage Site or its setting in the Orkney landscape.

On Monday, June 25, members of OIC’s Development and Marine Planning team will make a presentation in Edinburgh to the judges who will decide the winning entries for the 2012 Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning.
