Orkney’s shows season kicks off in Sanday

Overall Show winner at the 2016 Sanday Show was this home bred heifer owned by Malcolm and Angela Lennie (pictured), Seaview.

Orkney’s shows season officially kicks off this morning with the Sanday Show.

The show, which is one of Orkney’s two north isles shows, is set to begin at 9am, with judging commencing shortly after.

New categories have been introduced in some categories in a bid attract some new blood to the show.

This year’s president is Malcolm Lennie, a prolific and successful exhibitor at the show himself, particularly in the cattle and sheep sections. A heifer calf shown by Mr Lennie took the title of overall champion at last year’s Sanday Show.

The show, which takes place next to the island’s school, also sees horse, poultry, dog and pet competitions as well as an industrial show inside the school building itself.
