Orkney to host 2023 NatWest Island Games

Orkney’s Island Games athletes can now start looking forward to a home Games in 2023.

Orkney has been confirmed as the 2023 NatWest Island Games host island.

A historic decision, the 24 International Island Games Association (IIGA) member islands were unanimous, voting to bring the multi-sport extravaganza to Orkney for the first time.

Orkney has competed in every edition of the biannual competition since its inception in 1985.

The county was the only island in the running to host the event and gained a seal of approval from the IIGA executive committee following an inspection visit last November.

The news means that, in five years time, 13 sports will be contested in the week-long Games, with 24 member islands from across the world set to feature.
