Orkney seal 21st Sevens title

Orkney won the sevens for the first time in four years after beating Hearts and Balls.

The sun shone on the 51st Orkney Rugby Sevens, as Hearts and Balls were denied back-to-back titles by a determined Orkney side.

Scott Russell and Jon Tait scored the tries, delivering a dream win in front of a bumper crowd, as Orkney beat the Edinburgh charity side 10-7 to lift their first Sevens title since 2014.

It was the icing on the cake on a day which saw a fantastic turnout enjoy some enthralling sevens rugby.

Orkney’s James Linklater was named the home player of the tournament, picking up the Keith Hutchison Memorial Trophy, while Darren McLean picked up the Grangemouth Quaich for the best Orkney young player.

Meanwhile, Cameron’s Angels beat the Hobblers 21-5 to lift the Plate, while Who Let The Hogs Out won the Bowl and West won the Pail.
