Orkney Science Festival programme launched

THE SOUND OF SCIENCE — Musician Brian Cromarty will share the music he has developed around sounds he has recorded from Orkney’s renewable energy sources.

New insights into the origins of bere in Orkney fields, and of potatoes on a high Bolivian plateau; ship design for Neolithic seas and for polar icy waters today; Orkney genes and patterns of human disease; and a new field of engineering with the single remit: find a path to the future.

These are some of the elements of the programme for this year’s Orkney International Science Festival, launched this week. The 100-plus events include a candlelight lecture, papermaking by the sea, and music for a winter queen.

The festival, which runs September 1-7, will take place at various venues in Orkney, indoors and outdoors, and also online.

You can find out more about the upcoming events in The Orcadian, available online and in shops, or on https://oisf.org/
