Orkney RFC defeated in ‘must-win’ clash

In a match billed as a must-win, Orkney RFC fell to defeat this afternoon, losing 36-19 to bottom-club Dalziel.

It could be a defeat of huge significance in both sides quest to remain in BT National League Division 3, with Dalziel cutting the gap between themselves and Orkney to just four points with their first victory of the season.

Haddington, who are also firmly in the relegation mix, fell to a heavy defeat against Glasgow Academicals, meaning Orkney remain just above the relegation places on 11 points.

Scott Rendall scored Orkney’s only try on a hugely disappointing day, while Danny Bain added four penalties and a conversion.

Orkney’s next match is at home against Perthshire on Saturday, March 3.
