Orkney Housing Association marks 1000th-house milestone

OHAL marked a significant milestone at Liberator Drive, Kirkwall, today, with the unveiling of a plaque by retiring OHAL employee, Moira Irvine, and the Scottish Government’s minister for housing Kevin Stewart, who are pictured, centre, on either side of plaque.

Orkney Housing Association Ltd (OHAL) marked a major milestone this afternoon with the official opening of their one-thousandth home in the county.

The association welcomed the Scottish Government’s minister for Housing and Local Government, Kevin Stewart, who, with the help of retiring OHAL employee, Moira Irvine, unveiled a special plaque set in a locally quarried standing stone at Liberator Drive in Kirkwall.

Mr Stewart said it was a great honour to share the official opening with Moira, adding that he was pleased to meet the resident of the thousandth property, Erin Foulis, to see how she and her family are settling in to their new home.

He said: “We recognise the challenges of developing affordable housing in rural areas, and the importance of strong partnership working in delivering right housing in the right places to reflect the needs of the people of Orkney.”
